Temari
Outline of the Course Aims
These decorative embroidered balls originally were made by servants of the Samurai class who would compete to produce the most beautiful designs worked in silk thread. In the nineteenth century the craft spread to the lower classes who utilized whatever materials were available. The finished balls were popular as a girls toy and mothers made temari for their daughters and passed the craft from one generation to another.
At this workshop you will learn how to wrap a ball, mark simple divisions and follow a Japanese pattern book. You will finish one ball and, hopefully, start a second.
